Review | The Healthy Foundation by Physicians Formula

Good morning beauties!

I’m excited to be sharing today’s foundation review with you all!

First, here’s a little background on my past challenges with using foundation…

My skin has always been very breakout prone and sensitive to harsh ingredients. I’ve grown to appreciate higher quality makeup/skincare over the years, and I gradually started to avoid foundations that just didn’t meet my skin standards. I would regularly get pimples and irritated skin after using a new foundation, and I’d just end up returning it. I would have to wait for my skin to heal and then move on to something else, while crossing my fingers for success.

I started watching a lot of foundation reviews/try-ons on Youtube in the last month or so, and it made me want to start giving foundation some more attention. I had dabbled with a couple of drugstore brands before, but didn’t have much luck. A lot of drugstore brands are also not cruelty-free or vegan, which is a total deal breaker for me.

After watching a few reviews on Youtube for The Healthy Foundation by Physicians Formula, I decided to give the drugstore side a chance again. I purchased mine at Ulta, but it is also on the Physicians Formula website. I saw a price difference of close to $2 between both sellers. Because I noticed that, I’d obviously recommend you do price checks before you buy!

Here are the claims listed about the foundation:

Hypoallergenic, Fragrance-Free, Paraben-Free, Gluten Free, Dermatologist Approved, Non-Comedogenic, Clinically Tested, Cruelty Free, and Vegan.

It provides lightweight wear, has medium buildable coverage, and a satin finish. There is also an SPF of 20, and it is supposed to be for all skin types.

I chose the shade LW2, because it was the only shade that seemed to match my undertone.

I’ll start with my Pros and then Cons of trying this foundation.

Has an amazing looking finish once it dries down.

Glides on perfectly without any struggle.

Has great staying power without the need to use setting spray.

Feels like you aren’t wearing anything.

Doesn’t settle into pores or lines and improves the texture of my skin.

Doesn’t contain synthetic fragrances in the ingredients, but it still has a strong paint/perfume-like scent.

The applicator wand isn’t wise packaging design. It really should have a pump instead.

There’s not enough shades for super fair people like myself.

If it’s not blended in well enough or if it is put on too heavy, it can look like fake tanner.

What do you all think?

I really like this foundation, regardless of the cons. I plan on using all of it before I move on to something new. I’m not sure if I would repurchase it again, but I definitely recommend you give it a try for yourself!
